Hybrid offers the best of two worlds

For brand owners on a never-ending search for ways to stand out on store shelves, labels are a vital tool. They are a product’s best chance to catch a shopper’s attention, and to do that they need to both stand out among similar products and resonate with consumers.

One way to address the first part of that equation is with the kind of high-end embellishments possible with flexographic presses. The second half, on the other hand, calls for high levels of customization best accomplished with digital. And while those competing demands once forced brands to make a choice, the advent of hybrid presses means it is increasingly possible to do both.

Dave McConnon, Meyers VP of operations, Label & Card, spoke recently with Industrial Print Magazine about hybrid and Meyers’ use of its MPS EF SYMJET Powered by Domino. The press allows us to print foils, screens and other embellishments with flexo and add customized artwork with digital.

“We purchased the MPS EF SYMJET because of the flexibility it offers in our ability to produce decorative effects and die cutting inline along with digital,” McConnon said.

That flexibility is increasingly important as brands continue to offer more SKUs and customize labels for different regions, and we expect our hybrid press to open the door to exciting new possibilities as we continue to work with it.
